EqualSplit started as a high school project in Oak Park, CA, and turned into something we actually believe in. Two student athletes who wanted better data, taught themselves the hardware, and built it. Now tested on real tracks, endorsed by a Paralympic gold medalist, and getting better every week.

Our Journey
FROM ZERO TO PRODUCT
It started with a frustration. We were student athletes who knew what good timing data could do, and watched our school make do without it. So we started sketching. What would it actually take to build our own?
We taught ourselves everything: microcontrollers, LiDAR sensors, wireless communication. The first prototype was rough, but it worked. A real split time on a real track. That was enough to know we were onto something.
Custom PCB, refined firmware, a purpose-built 3D-printed enclosure. Two timing modes. 100m+ wireless range. Everything a coach needs, at a price any program can afford.
Versatile. You can use it at any distance, with any athlete. It's reliable — and easy to use.

OUR MISSION
Talent has no zip code. The tools to develop it shouldn't either. Every athlete deserves objective data, not just the ones at well-funded programs. That's the whole reason we built this.
We're student athletes from Oak Park who understood the problem firsthand. Every design decision comes from real coaches, real training, and real feedback from the track.

WHO BUILT THIS
Student athlete from Oak Park, CA. Self-taught engineer who learned coding, microcontrollers, sensors, mechanical CAD, and PCB design through online resources and a lot of trial and error. Handles hardware and software end to end, from first sketches through firmware, circuit boards, enclosures, and the mobile app.

A special thanks to my teacher Mr. Lippincott.
When I first brought this project idea, of creating a set of timing gates, to Mr. Lippincott, I was a student in his physics class with no electronics experience. Yet, he gave me his full support and even started giving recommendations for sensors to use. He recommended the LiDAR sensor we use today.
Mr. Lippincott also let me work on the timing gates in his class when I had a free period, during his mechatronics period. Without this space, time, and environment, I doubt I would have finished this ambitious first project. I spent hours there during and after school, eventually finishing the project. He also brought a set of our gates to Open Sauce this summer.
